Edit products and editions in Advanced Product Designer

Advanced Product Designer lets product modelers open a product or edition for editing. Learn how to select a product, find an edition, and lock the product or edition before making changes.

Procedure

  1. On the Insurance Products page, click a product.
  2. If you want to make changes to the product model, from the toolbar, lock the product.
  3. If you want to make changes to an edition, from the toolbar, choose the edition from the drop-down list and lock the edition.
    If the edition you want to modify does not appear in the drop-down list, click View all editions and choose an edition from Select Edition.

Resolve the "You don't have access to these products" error

Restore access to the Insurance Products list in Advanced Product Designer when the product list does not open and APD shows a permissions error.

About this task

Use this procedure when Advanced Product Designer shows the following message instead of the Insurance Products list: You don't have access to these products. Try signing out and back in. If that doesn't help, see the APD documentation for information about how to request access.

Two different conditions can cause this message. Your sign-in session might have expired, or your account might not have permission to view products in the current tenant. Start with signing out and signing back in because that step is quick and often resolves the problem.

Procedure

  1. Sign out of Advanced Product Designer, and then sign back in.
    If your sign-in session had expired, the Insurance Products list opens normally after you sign back in.
  2. If the same message still appears, ask your administrator to grant your account access to Advanced Product Designer products in the current tenant.
    Your account needs permission to view products in that tenant. Advanced Product Designer cannot distinguish a missing permission from an expired session in the browser, so both conditions show the same message.
  3. After your administrator updates your access, sign out of Advanced Product Designer and sign back in again.
    The new permission takes effect after you start a new sign-in session.

Lock products and editions in Advanced Product Designer

Advanced Product Designer locking lets teams safely edit products and editions without conflicting changes. Product locking covers product model changes. Edition locking covers rule changes and edition creation.

Locking a product or an edition for editing puts a lock on it so that other users cannot make changes to it. While you have the product or edition locked for editing, you can make changes and save them. When you have completed your changes, you unlock the product or edition so that others can edit it. This action saves the resource and then releases your lock so that other users can lock and edit the resource. If a product or an edition is locked for editing, the status displayed for the product or edition indicates that it is locked for editing and the option to lock the product or edition for editing is disabled.

You must lock a product to make changes to the product model, for example to add a coverage.
