Model blanket types

Create a blanket type

You typically create risk objects and coverages before you create a blanket. You create a blanket at the product line level.

Procedure

  1. In the Navigation pane, select the product line.
  2. Choose Add Child Object > Add Blanket.
  3. In Element Details, provide a label and a short name for the blanket.
  4. Create attributes for the blanket, for example Description, Limit, Deductible, and Coinsurance.
Check IsIdentifier if you want an attribute to appear on the Blanket Details screen in a submission.
  5. Optionally, create one or more coverages for the blanket, for example Aggregate Liability coverage.
A coverage on a blanket cannot have subclauses.
  6. Optionally, create rules on the coverages.

Associate a risk object with blankets

You can associate a risk object with one or more blankets.

Procedure

  1. In the Navigation pane, select the risk object.
  2. Choose Edit <Risk Object>.
  3. In Element Details, in Blanket Information, in Blankets, choose one or more blankets from the drop-down list.

Associate a coverage with a blanket

You can associate a coverage, including a line coverage, with one and only one blanket.

Procedure

  1. In the Navigation pane, select the product line or risk object on which the coverage is defined.
  2. In Elements, select Coverages.
  3. In Element Details for the coverage, in Blanket Information, in Blanket, choose a blanket from the drop-down list.
  4. Optionally, create a rule for the coverage.
For example, you can create a rule to make the coverage Unavailable unless a certain blanket coverage (such as Aggregate Liability) exists. Or, you can create a rule that says that the minimum liability coverage for a building is $500,000 unless the building is covered by a blanket, in which case the minimum liability coverage is only $300,000.

Test blankets in a submission

Procedure

  1. Start a submission in PolicyCenter.
  2. Add coverables and coverages.
  3. In the Navigation pane, select Blankets.
The blanket types you defined in APD are displayed differently depending on whether the product is visualized or installed:
    • For a visualized product, a single table displays a tab for each blanket type.
    • For an installed product, each blanket type appears in a separate table. Any attributes for which you checked IsIdentifier in APD appear along with the blanket type.
  4. Locate the tab or table for the blanket type.
  5. Click Add.
Blankets you create are numbered sequentially, for example 2: Liability Blanket.
  6. In Blanket Name, click the name of the blanket.
  7. In Blanket Details, click Add.
  8. In Coverable/Clause Search, click Search.
An instance of a coverable or coverage can be associated with only one instance of a blanket.
The instances of locations, coverables, and clauses that you associated with the blanket type in APD appear in Search Results.
  9. Click Select to add an item to the list in Blanket Details.
  10. Add more items to the list as necessary.
  11. In Blanket Details, check the appropriate items. Click OK.
  12. In the tab or table for the blanket type, check the blankets you want to use.
