Modifiers

A modifier, also referred to as a rate modifier, is a value used by the rating engine to adjust the policy premium (or some portion of it). There are multiple types of modifiers, many of which are specific to a jurisdiction. Modifiers can be at the product level or the product line level. Modifiers added to a product affect ratings for all lines in that product. Modifiers added to a product line affect only that line.

Guidewire provides endpoints for accessing modifiers at different levels.

  • Modifier product definitions: Retrieve the modifiers defined for the installed products and product lines.
  • Line-level modifiers: For a specific job, retrieve and set values on modifiers attached to the line, such as a MultiPolicyDiscount modifier on a PersonalAutoLine.
  • Object-level modifiers: For a specific job, retrieve and set values on modifiers attached to an object on a line, such as a vehicle AntiLockBrakes discount on a PersonalAutoLine.

See "Quoting and rating overview" in the Application Guide for more information on rating.
