Data Federation service supports external S3 catalog
You can now access external data in Amazon S3 by using your existing JDBC URL for the Data Federation Service. This external S3 access feature is part of the Data Federation Service and enables federated queries across your external S3 bucket and Guidewire data sources.
After you complete onboarding steps to use this feature, you can view and query data in the external S3 bucket using your preferred external application such as a SQL editor or business intelligence tool like Tableau. Your queries can join external S3 data with Guidewire data from published Data Studio datasets. The Data Federation service federates SQL queries: it connects to Guidewire and external catalogs and queries data where it resides, without moving or copying data.
Typical use cases include enriching Guidewire's published Data Studio datasets with external data, such as third‑party weather, geospatial, or market data that's stored in your external S3 bucket. You can also join policy or claims datasets that Data Studio publishes with customer Apache Iceberg tables for analytics or machine learning workflows, without copying data out of your AWS account.
This feature requires that you use the AWS Glue Data Catalog to manage data in this external S3 bucket as Apache Iceberg tables. For onboarding steps, see "Onboard external S3 with Data Federation service" in the Data Platform documentation. For information on the Data Federation service, see "Data federation service overview" in the Data Platform documentation.
Data Studio
Bulk cloning entities
In bulk actions, you can now clone multiple entities at once. This action streamlines pipeline updates.
Administration screen for adding Data Studio admin users
You can now get admin access to manage user permissions from the Administration screen. To learn more, see the Data Studio Guide.
Masking of personally identifiable information in Data Studio
Data Studio masks personally identifiable information (PII) by default to protect sensitive data. Users with specific permissions can view masked data or change which columns are marked as PII. Admin users can configure PII permissions for other users from the Data Studio Administration screen. You can learn about PII in the Data Studio Guide.
Static reference dataset
You can now create datasets that contain static, external data by uploading CSV files from your computer. Use them for lookups, mappings, and enumerations. To learn more, see the Data Studio Guide.
New cf_updatetime column
Added a new column called cf_updatetime to replicated data
tables. It calculates a "business" update time that puts records in correct
chronological order. This column is useful in cases where
update_time (set in the InsuranceSuite database) differs
from the database commit order. For example:
- Heavy batch loads
- Delete, archive, and restore scenarios
- Out-of-band updates
Guidewire now recommends using cf_updatetime as the typical time
basis column when deploying historical datasets and data tables in Data Studio.
To learn more, see the Data Studio Guide.
This update applies to any newly created system data tables after March 25, 2026. Reach out to Guidewire to request it for existing data tables.
Visual data lineage canvas for pipelines
The data lineage canvas maps your upstream and downstream dependencies to enhance your understanding of Data Studio pipelines. It empowers your teams to see impact at a glance, troubleshoot issues much faster, and design new datasets with confidence. See View Data Studio object relationships.
For a quick demonstration of the data lineage canvas, watch this video.
