General incidents

In some cases, you may want to create an incident at the Incident supertype level. This can be appropriate for claims that make use of incidents not covered at one of the subtype levels. For example, an insurer may offer a special type of policy for covering fine art, such as paintings. The insurer opts not to create a new incident subtype for fine art losses and uses the Incident supertype instead.

In Cloud API, you can create incidents at the Incident supertype level by using the /general-incidents endpoints. In the base configuration, this provides access to fields available to all incident types, such as description, lossParty, and severity.

General incidents can also make use of assessment content items. An assessment content item is an individual item covered by the policy.

Endpoints for managing general incidents

Use the following endpoints to manage general incidents:

  • GET /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents
  • POST /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents
  • GET /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}
  • PATCH /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}
  • DELETE /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}

For example, the following request creates a general incident for claim cc:10.

  • GET /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}/assessment-content-items
  • POST /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}/assessment-content-items
  • GET /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}/assessment-content-items/{assessmentContentItemId}
  • PATCH /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}/assessment-content-items/{assessmentContentItemId}
  • DELETE /claims/{claimId}/general-incidents/{incidentId}/assessment-content-items/{assessmentContentItemId}

For example, the following request creates an assessment content item for general incident cc:567 on claim cc:10.
